Oversized cargo — cargo whose dimensions of a single piece exceed the dimensional limits of loading doors and cargo compartments of passenger aircraft on which transportation is performed. In the airline, oversized cargo is defined as cargo with maximum dimensions L×W×H equal to 300×100×100 cm respectively.

Oversized cargo must be approved by the carrier through authorized representatives — OOGP specialists. The IMP code must be indicated in the booking system. Shipment of such cargo must be booked, coordinated, and confirmed to the final destination. Dimensions of each piece must be indicated in the booking request. Oversized cargo must be included in transport documentation and operational messages with the IMP code BIG.

Before accepting oversized cargo, OOGP specialists of Ural Airlines must verify that all necessary formalities for the given route have been completed to ensure that:

  1. No limitations are exceeded;
  2. The necessary ground loading/unloading equipment and workforce are available;
  3. Loading/unloading can be performed according to schedule during aircraft ground time.

A request is sent in advance to airports listed in the loading/unloading plan to obtain their approval to accept the cargo. The request must contain the following minimum information, allowing them to evaluate handling requirements:

  1. The weight of each unit;
  2. The dimensions of each unit (L × W × H) clearly specified in measurement units;
  3. Other useful information related to cargo handling, such as cargo description, overall shape, and how it can be lifted. Confirmation from the relevant airport(s) of their readiness to accept the cargo must be received before shipment.

When transporting oversized cargo, the corresponding section of the aircraft load sheet must indicate the location, weight of the cargo, and the oversized cargo code (IMP code BIG), for example, BIG/AB/2000.

Attention. Oversized cargo must be transported as follows: the cargo must be placed on the horizontal surface of the cargo compartment floor and secured with tie-down straps. Installing all separation and door nets provided by the aircraft design is mandatory. Re-hanging nets to attachment points not designed for that purpose is not allowed. In exceptional cases, when the dimensions of the loaded cargo do not allow it to be placed within one section, removal of standard separation nets is permitted, provided that all cargo on both sides of the separation net is individually secured (see fastening options in Ch. 5, para. 5.2, sub-para. 6).

When individually securing cargo using additional tie-down equipment, the standard separation and door nets must also be installed; however, if individual cargo pieces cannot be placed within one section and secured using standard separation nets due to their dimensions, it is permitted to remove separation nets provided that:

  • Any items located in the sections on both sides of the removed net are individually secured with additional tie-down equipment;
  • No unsecured items remain in the compartments on both sides of the removed separation net.
